Dietitian
Patients with digestive conditions sometimes require specialized nutrition guidance. A healthy diet for digestive health can play an important role in managing symptoms and supporting overall digestive wellness.
Although Salem Gastro does not currently have a dietitian on staff, our providers may recommend working with a registered dietitian who specializes in gastrointestinal nutrition when dietary counseling would be beneficial. If you are experiencing digestive symptoms, you can also learn more about the conditions we treat on our Conditions page.
What is a dietitian?
A registered dietitian is a nutrition expert trained to help patients manage medical conditions through diet and lifestyle changes. In gastroenterology, dietitians often work with patients who have conditions such as Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and other digestive disorders.
For certain conditions, dietary changes may help reduce symptoms, improve digestion, and support overall health.
Who would need one?
Your provider will determine whether meeting with a dietitian may be helpful for your care. Patients with digestive conditions, food intolerances, or those who need guidance with specialized diets related to gastrointestinal disease may benefit from nutrition counseling.
Your provider can also help determine the best approach to managing digestive symptoms through diet and lifestyle guidance.
How do I go about seeing one?
If your provider believes nutrition counseling would be helpful, they may recommend or refer you to a registered dietitian experienced in digestive health. Please speak with your Salem Gastro provider if you have questions about whether dietary counseling may be appropriate for you.
